Last Flag, a team-based third-person shooter from Imagine Dragons frontman Dan Reynolds and developer Night Street Games, is implementing a new strategy to build its player base – offering free access every weekend through the summer.
Players can experience the full Last Flag demo from Friday through Monday until the game’s summer update arrives. The exact timing of that major patch remains unconfirmed.
The demo grants complete access to the entire game. Players using the demo can compete against both demo and paying players across Steam and Epic Games Store. All nine characters are available, along with two maps – Copper Falls and Snowfield. Demo participants also earn experience points and unlock free cosmetic rewards as they progress.
Any progress and rewards accumulated during demo sessions carry over if you decide to purchase the full game for $15 at any point.

The free weekend initiative appears designed to reverse recent player decline. Last Flag launched on April 14 and peaked at 558 concurrent players on Steam. Since then, numbers have dropped significantly – the game currently sits at around 60 concurrent players on the platform. Epic Games Store player data remains unavailable, and Last Flag has not released on consoles.
Despite modest player counts, Last Flag has earned solid community reception. The game holds a “Mostly Positive” rating on Steam based on hundreds of reviews.
How the game reshapes capture the flag
Night Street Games describes Last Flag as a reimagined take on the classic capture the flag formula, delivered as a competitive third-person shooter. Matches begin with each team having 60 seconds to hide their flag before combat erupts. Teams then race to steal their opponent’s flag while defending their own simultaneously.
Simply retrieving the flag and returning it to base doesn’t secure victory, however. Once the flag reaches the base, an additional 60-second defense phase commences where players must protect it from enemy recapture attempts.

Nine distinct characters bring unique abilities to combat, pushing teams to develop coordinated strategies and find synergistic rosters. Players can also spend in-game currency to purchase equipment upgrades.
The upcoming summer update introduces a new map called Double Temples and an additional character named Graffiti, expanding the game’s tactical possibilities.
Last Flag entered an already saturated multiplayer-as-a-service market where numerous titles have failed to retain audiences and subsequently shut down.
