A 2023 PlayStation patent, made public only this month, reveals a technology that uses AI to create highlight reels based on player actions.

The system, spotted by MP1st, tracks gameplay to identify key achievements such as boss battles or record – breaking scores.

Artificial intelligence is then used to analyze playstyles and determine which specific skills are most significant to the individual.

For example, a double kill in Call of Duty would be noteworthy for an average player, but less significant for a regular expert.

Sony aims to simplify the capture features that have been integral to PlayStation since the PS4 Share button debuted.

Sony Explores AI – Driven Automation for PlayStation Highlights

Currently, gamers must manually record and edit their best moments, a process the patent seeks to automate.

The document suggests that video clips and digital posters could be generated automatically using screenshots and footage for immediate online sharing.

The goal is to highlight the unique abilities of every player based on their individual performance levels.

This concept acts as a “Spotify Wrapped” for gaming, personalizing achievements for every user.

Such viral moments provide value to Sony, essentially acting as free advertisements for the PlayStation platform.

However, patents rarely become actual products, so this technology may not appear on the PS6 at launch.
