The Pokémon franchise has officially crossed the 515 million lifetime sales mark. This milestone includes 26 million copies sold over the past year alone as excitement builds for the upcoming release of Pokémon Winds and Waves.

As the highest-grossing media franchise in history, Pokémon consistently dominates Nintendo’s bestseller charts – holding the ultimate number one sales spot on both the Game Boy and Game Boy Advance platforms. Even though public perception suffered a brief dip following the heavily criticized launch of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, the series has proven its resilience as sales continue to thrive globally.

According to the latest financial report from The Pokémon Company, total software shipments exceeded 515 million units by late March 2026. Data from the Wayback Machine confirms this represents a clear 26 million unit increase from last year’s 489 million total.

  • The October release of Pokémon Legends Z-A, debuting the series on Switch 2.
  • The launch of Pokémon Pokopia earlier this year, which became an instant phenomenon.
  • The Switch ports of Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen, adding 4 million copies to join the top 10 bestsellers.

Crucially, these metrics only track sales up to the end of March 2026. This means Pokémon Pokopia has likely achieved even higher numbers by now, especially since Nintendo announced that the breakout hit surpassed 4 million copies by the end of its release month alone.

Driven by the sustained popularity of Pokopia and the scheduled 2027 arrival of the 10th generation games – Pokémon Winds and Waves – next year’s growth could easily surpass these current historic records.
