Game studio GSC Game World has publicly rejected recent statements by Sergiy Grygorovych regarding the financing of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2. Grygorovych had asserted that an Xbox console exclusivity deal fully covered production costs and turned a profit before release.

In a comment to Insider Gaming, a studio spokesperson admitted they initially intended to stay silent. However, GSC ultimately decided that saying nothing would be misconstrued as confirming false information.

“Per agreements between the parties, Sergiy participated in neither partner negotiations nor actual game development throughout the entire production cycle. We completely fulfilled our end of the deal. Therefore, his comments regarding company operations cannot reflect reality,” GSC stated.

Additionally, the developers emphasized that current company owner Maksym Krippa provided a major portion of the development budget.

“Developing S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 was one of the toughest projects in gaming history. We believe its story should rely on facts rather than assumptions,” the studio concluded. “We hope such statements will not divert attention from what matters now. GSC is finalizing a major update for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 – along with its first major story DLC – with details coming soon.”
