Following an intentional price reduction in April, Microsoft is recording positive dynamics surrounding Xbox Game Pass. This encouraging shift was disclosed by the head of XBOX – Asha Sharma – within an internal corporate newsletter distributed to employees.
According to Sharma, the latest operational metrics provide the company with a legitimate reason for cautious optimism. This upward trend is characterized by a steady increase in new subscriptions and improved audience retention rates.
“After last year’s changes to prices and tariff structures, our growth decelerated while subscriber churn accelerated. Following the recent subscription cost reduction, we witnessed an increase in new users and better retention – a great first step that gives us a reason for cautious optimism,” Sharma noted.
The successor to Phil Spencer urged her team to stay focused on expanding this success and to quickly extract lessons from the current market dynamics.
“We will not resolve this issue with a single solution or one launch. We must work consistently on the challenges ahead to restore our sustainable growth,” the memo states.
In June, Microsoft will host the major Xbox Games Showcase to present new titles and reveal details about the powerful Xbox Project Helix console. Sharma emphasized her commitment to long-term brand development.
“We are building a stronger XBOX brand, which means making tough decisions about projects, investments, and our future identity. This is visible in the transition from Xbox to XBOX – a change reflecting our desire to consciously build relationships with players who value this brand,” Sharma explained.
