State of Play delivered the announcement Metal Gear fans had been waiting for since 2010. The legendary fourth installment – originally launched in 2008 and trapped on PlayStation 3 ever since – is coming to modern hardware. Konami’s Master Collection Vol. 2 will bring Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots to PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2.

The initial announcement trailer lacked gameplay footage, leaving enthusiasts unable to assess how the classic stealth-action title would look on current generation systems. Japanese gaming outlets changed that by publishing an hour of actual gameplay from the game’s opening sequences.

No fundamental redesigns were attempted. Master Collection Vol. 2 operates as a port rather than a remake or comprehensive remaster, but the combination of modern hardware performance, contemporary resolution standards, and subtle graphical refinements produces something remarkable – an 18-year-old game that looks genuinely impressive in 2026.

The footage shown makes one thing clear: longtime fans hoping to experience Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots on contemporary platforms will not be disappointed.

What else is included

Master Collection Vol. 2 packages more than just MGS 4. The compilation features Peace Walker in its HD Collection version, Ghost Babel, plus various bonus materials including the soundtrack.

Release timing confirmed

August 27th marks the launch date. Steam, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2 will all receive the collection simultaneously.
