While the latest Xbox restructuring heavily impacted several prominent studios, Blizzard Entertainment emerged largely unaffected. According to Jason Schreier, the developer faced minor staff cuts and is currently working on multiple new projects.

The renowned games journalist revealed that Blizzard sustained very few layoffs. Citing internal sources, he teased upcoming Diablo and StarCraft titles.

“There is a bunch of new projects in development. New things in Diablo. I wrote about the StarCraft shooter – lots of cool things are happening,” Schreier said.

In a recent video, Schreier detailed the situation across Xbox studios following over 3,000 layoffs. He noted that Blizzard is in a great position. Overwatch is thriving, while World of Warcraft and Diablo generate millions in revenue, paving the way for more content and a new StarCraft shooter.

Despite the studio’s strong performance, developers remain anxious about keeping their jobs over the next three months. Future layoff rounds could ultimately decide the fate of these active projects.

This stability highlights Blizzard’s role since Microsoft’s $68.7 billion acquisition in 2023. Blizzard remains Microsoft’s most profitable gaming asset, whereas other studios suffered severely under Asha Sharma’s reforms:

  • id Software lost most of its staff, including VFX and engine developers.
  • Bethesda and ZOS faced heavy cuts that will impact The Elder Scrolls 6 and TES Online.
  • Obsidian must cancel Avowed 2 to start developing a new Fallout game.
