What Plans for a New Project Does Obsidian Entertainment Have?
Obsidian Entertainment is always active in game development. The first-party Microsoft studio has a reputation for creating great RPGs and detailed worlds. And it seems they are working on a new project besides the already announced Awoved and The Outer Worlds 2. A recent clue about this comes from an Art Director at Obsidian who updated their LinkedIn page.
With the latest news proving that Awoved was delayed up to February 18, 2025, it seems that the hands of Obsidian are quite full to start working on another big project. However, who knows what they can be doing except Awoved and The Outer World 2?
According to the public LinkedIn profile of their Art Director, Daniel Cabuco, there is a possibility that Obsidian Entertainment could be working on an “unannounced title”. So, what could this secret project be? It will probably be a smaller AA game, driven by passion like Pentiment or Grounded.
Fans on Reddit have been fantasizing about a new Fallout game, particularly after the excitement created by the Amazon series. Although many enjoy Obsidian’s Fallout: New Vegas, this mysterious project may not be connected with it. If the Grounded team is concluding their work soon, this might represent their following journey.
In case this new Obsidian project is truly a big AAA title, we might need to wait some more time for specific information. Nevertheless, if it’s a smaller effort, they could make announcements earlier. Hopefully, we will soon get the details and will write one of our fullest guides about this game, just like we did with the Sea of Stars guide.
Blizzard’s New Team Brings Exciting News for Fans
Blizzard Entertainment is in action, they have a new plan that will make fans very happy. It has been reported that Blizzard has formed a team to create AA games using their popular IPs and this was done because Microsoft requested it.
As a result of Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard for $ 68.7 billion in October 2023, there have been notable alterations since then. The CEO who had been with the company for a long time, Bobby Kotick, left his position this past December and now the leadership at Activision Blizzard reports to Matt Booty – Microsoft’s head dealing primarily with in-game content and studios. Even though the acquisition was massive, day-to-day activities remained seemingly unaltered – up until recently.
According to Jez Corden’s tweet, Microsoft has started to steer its new purchase. The developers from the new team at Blizzard (mostly ex-King employees) will specifically concentrate on making AA games that use current Blizzard franchises such as Diablo, Overwatch, and StarCraft along with Warcraft. King’s experience in mobile gaming from their popular Candy Crush series has been added to this new project.
Even though the specific team size is not clear, the LinkedIn data indicates that many employees from King are moving into Activision Blizzard. This could imply a possible concentration on mobile platforms. Nevertheless, we still do not know if this team will concentrate mainly on handheld devices, considering the progress of XCloud.
The mission of the new team is to breathe life into Blizzard’s IPs and create different AA projects for the fans of beloved franchises.
This news follows Xbox’s actions to reduce expenses, like shutting down four ZeniMax Media studios and around 2,100 job cuts in 2024. Even with these difficulties, the new team of Blizzard holds excitement for followers of its famous games.
