Hogwarts Legacy DLC: What All Potterheads Are Waiting For

The Harry Potter film series has been filmed, and an endless amount of merch has been released. What did we lack to be completely happy? Of course, games, and not simple ones, but with a large open world. To use spells and explore the incredible areas of Hogwarts. Or maybe go to Hogsmeade for sweets?

Dreams come true! In early 2023, the American company Avalanche Software is developing, and Warner Bros. Games is publishing a completely new and truly magical game – Hogwarts Legacy. Now, in 2024, thanks to journalist Tom Henderson, it becomes known about the imminent release of Hogwarts Legacy DLC. What awaits us?  There are plans to add 10 to 15 additional hours of new content to the Hogwarts Legacy DLC, which will add a new storyline, quests, and unique items. We can only guess what exactly will change in the game. We would like the NPCs to become more alive and be able to interact with them more.

In Hogwarts Legacy, many fans wanted to play Quidditch, but, unfortunately, this was impossible, which caused a wave of indignation. Hogwarts without this legendary game is like Hermione without a magic wand. There are rumors that the Hogwarts Legacy DLC will have Quidditch. Or so we would like to believe. However, in the main part of the game, we saw a Quidditch field, which was created in sufficient detail, which may be a hint at a future wizarding game.

We do not know the exact release date of the Hogwarts Legacy DLC.  The only thing we know is that the add-on will be released in 2025, and the game is currently in active development. Hogwarts Legacy DLC is planned to be sold separately from the main game for a certain fee – $20-30.

Most likely, Warner Bros. Games was intoxicated by the success of Hogwarts Legacy sales and the company decided to earn even more. Even if this is true, we will forgive this insatiable company if it pleases us with a good add-on, and not a couple of magic hats and a useless quest.

After all, you want to pay for good maps and locations.

The announcement of a new game in the Harry Potter universe caused a huge wave of excitement among Potter fans. Finally, an open world with many beautiful locations! After the release of Hogwarts Legacy, the game instantly became popular. Everyone played it: both fans and those unfamiliar with the Harry Potter universe. The game received various criticism, but more on that later. Maybe this is my personal opinion, but Hogwarts Legacy is only good for Potter fans.

For gamers who have never watched the Harry Potter series, the game will be incomprehensible. You may even get the feeling that you have ended up at someone else’s party and now do not understand what is happening. Only Potter fans will appreciate all the Easter eggs. For others, the game may seem boring and unremarkable. If you are one of those to whom Hogwarts Legacy responded directly to the heart, then this article was created for you.

If you expect to see familiar Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger in the game, I hasten to disappoint you: they will not be here. And you will not even meet Dumbledore here. And here’s the thing. It’s simple: the events in Hogwarts Legacy unfold in the 1890s – 100 years before the main events. Dumbledore was only 9 years old at that time.

In Hogwarts Legacy, you play a character who turns out to be special. It turns out that he possesses ancient magic. Due to such unique abilities, the main character immediately gets into the 5th year of Hogwarts, which can already cause indignation. Why immediately into the 5th year? Perhaps the developers did this to immediately bring us up to speed and so that the game does not seem too childish and boring. So, you are the chosen one.  You are enrolled in one of four faculties. To do this, you need to answer several too-obvious questions that will determine your path. Then the main plot of the game begins.

Each faculty has its own quests. In addition, you can only enter the common room of your faculty. On your way, you meet characters with whom you can become friends, but you cannot start a romantic relationship with them. This is Hogwarts, so you will study here, although not as much as you would like. Basically, your task will be to complete various quests for NPCs and teachers. The main antagonist of the game will be a goblin named Ranrok, who wants to get the ancient magic of the main character. Ranrok hates people and is convinced that only goblins should possess such strong magic.

In general, the plot could have been worked out better. If not for the additional tasks and quests, the entire game could have been completed in a few hours.

Although Harry Potter was extraordinary and famous, he had his own shortcomings and enemies. You wanted to empathize with him, his personality was clearly visible. In Hogwarts Legacy, our main character is faceless and rather boring.

He succeeds in everything, he has excellent magic skills, and his relationships with everyone are excellent. An image of some ideal character is formed, whom everyone loves and wants to be friends with. This is not particularly interesting, since it makes him unrealistic. The character is cloyingly polite and meek with NPCs, as they are with him. Because of this vanilla communication, the impression of excessive idealization is created.

At the beginning of the game, you decide for yourself who to play as – a wizard or a witch, you can choose the appearance and physique. It would be nice if the main character had weaknesses that could be pumped up.

If you don’t count some bugs (getting stuck in textures when jumping), the game is simply magnificent, at least in graphics. You will definitely admire the Hogwarts castle and how detailed everything is there. Every corner of the castle is a delight. So you really feel the atmosphere of Hogwarts.

Let’s move on. Hogsmeade is another gorgeous location in Hogwarts Legacy. Excellently drawn and detailed, you want to return to it again and again. What can we say about the beautiful landscapes of the forest and mountains? In Hogwarts Legacy, the seasons change, so you can enjoy the world both in summer and winter.

Everyone likes cats. They are here too and you can even pet them.  In Hogwarts Legacy, you can save fantastic beasts from poachers, fly on a hippogriff, and defeat goblins. And if only you could fly on a dragon and play Quidditch. We hope they add this to the DLC.

The game has a significant problem with NPCs. They are formulaic, and dialogues with them are tedious and long. It seems that the developers wanted to extend the time in the game in this way. You can’t build romantic relationships with NPCs, which upset many fans. The castle and outside it are quite empty, which gives the impression that everyone is studying or sitting in their rooms. Many NPCs behave predictably: for example, they just stand or sit. But there are also interesting details, for example, a screaming letter to a boy, Peeves scaring a student near the toilet.

Some quests in Hogwarts Legacy were interesting, but there were few of them, and they sometimes got boring. Basically, quests consist of us helping NPCs or teachers find and bring something. The most annoying thing is that to learn a spell to move on in the plot, you first need to complete the teacher’s task.  The main character uses unforgivable spells in the presence of NPCs, who do not react to such serious spells, which is a big minus.

Pros:

1. Beautiful locations, especially Hogsmeade and Hogwarts;
2. Cats;
3. Harry Potter atmosphere;
4. The ability to fly on a broomstick and a Hippogriff;
5. Changing seasons;
6. Easter eggs;
7. Musical accompaniment.

Cons:

1. Too perfect a protagonist;
2. Long boring dialogues with NPCs;
3. Lack of Quidditch;
4. The faculties are almost no different from each other;
5. Everyone is cloyingly kind and polite;
6. Weak plot.
